Trio of Long Service Presentations
It has become a Glenkrag Christmas tradition in recent years that the company awards a watch for long serving staff who have reached 21 years of continuous service.

Up until this year there had been five people who have passed this milestone, Ewan Cahoon, Gerry McGonigle, Jim Stewart, Sammy Blakely and Mark Hutchinson.

Earlier this year Henry Taylor passed the 21 years service mark and today he was recognised with many of the staff of the company gathering in reception for a presentation from the Managing Director, Jack McCready. In Henry's time in the company he has been a popular character in the warehouse and his duties have fulfilled several roles including picking orders, handling customer returns and now makes up our popular Goldfish bowl kits.

With the company gathered in reception for Henry's presentation, two further members of staff were surprised when they were recognised for their service to the company. Both Don Patterson and Brian Cahill have been with the company for a total of 25 years service each and were also awarded with watch for their long service. Don and Brian have been at the heart of the goods out side of the warehouse since Don was sixteen and Brian had long hair!

The company would like to extend their thanks to all three members of staff.

Natures Menu - Why Choose RAW?
Where did raw feeding originate?

Dogs, cats and other animals have eaten raw, uncooked food since the dawn of evolution. Some eat a raw plant based diet others eat a raw meat based diet, others eat a little of both. Cats began living alongside humans due to their practical ability to catch rodents. Cats are nature's original hunter and true carnivores. They have evolved to function on a catch, kill and eat rather than a sustained grazing style diet that a herbivore would choose. Dogs began living alongside humans as scavengers and due to their practical ability to clear food rubbish and to offer certain scent work, hunting work and companionship abilities. Dog's have evolved with humans on a diet of predominantly raw meats and meaty bones of the prey they hunted, plus our leftovers of cooked vegetables, certain fruits, certain herbs and certain soluble grains such as the more ancient grains of oats or wholegrain rice.

Who might the raw diet be the most suitable for?

Today many pet owners are looking for healthier, freshly prepared diets for their pets. Just as they now look more closely at their own diet and food choices. They are interested and open to learn more about natural diets that can nourish their pets and help with common health concerns, general well-being and perhaps be more palatable to their pet. Pet owners are actually asking about natural diets and questioning the labelling and terms used on packaging. They are becoming aware of other ways of feeding such as Raw Feeding. Curiosity about the Raw Feeding choice is continually growing as consumers become more aware and informed about their pets food. Pet stores now need to provide a reputable, experienced raw food brand presence in store to make the most of this fast growing sector within the pet food industry.
Natures Menu receive many feedback comments every day informing them of the various experiences of feeding their foods. Below are some of the commonly reported benefits they are told. They are also, especially for the raw diet itself, the same reported benefits that have been consistently noted and talked about for the last 30 years Natures Menu have been supplying the pet foods.

Reports of:
* Fresher breath, cleaner whiter teeth
* More stable energy - less hyperactivity
* Improved internal organ function reported improvements in conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney issues
* Easier to digest, sensitive stomachs improve
* Reduction of allergies and intolerances
* Increase in appetite - even in cats!
* Clears up anal gland issues
* Less flatulence
* Conditions such as diabetes and epilepsy reportedly needing less medication
* Inflammatory issues such as skin conditions or joint inflammation reduce
* Older pets have more energy
* Stools are harder, smell less and much easier to pick up
* Fussy Pets seem to really take to the real meat products and are often the only food a Fussy Pet will eat

Customers whose dogs or cats suffer from any of the health issues mentioned above may benefit from switching their pet over to a raw diet. Many pets also show these improvements by switching onto Natures Menu steam cooked pouches, but for most the real difference comes from switching to the raw foods. Natures Menu recognise that they cannot claim that their foods can be used to treat, prevent or cure any disease however with these commonly reported benefits being so remarkable they have decided to set up a raw food research team. The aim of this being to try to establish the science underlying these benefits and what it is about the raw diet that appears to make such a difference to so many pets.

Why Natures Menu?

Natures Menu have over 33 years experience of creating raw pet foods. They were established in 1981 and still remain a family business to date. They have outstanding microbiological protocols, making the safety of the food paramount. They are the only brand able to ensure that the raw food stays frozen throughout all manufacturing processes and storage. They provide the only Fediaf (European Pet Food Industry) registered Complete and Balanced raw meals on the market. Wherever possible they use all British and mostly all Norfolk locally produced ingredients. They even use Free Range chicken in their adult complete and balanced range. The complete meals they create are fully balanced in protein and fat levels. The unique nuggets style raw meals are the easiest and most practical to offer a busy time savvy consumer.
Natures Menu's ambient range of tins and pouches are one of very few raw packed ranges. Natures Menu is the leading company in the UK dedicated to research and development of raw frozen foods and raw food diets for dogs and cats. Their raw food research team is the first of its kind in Europe, pioneering nutritional and scientific studies on raw diet and their benefits for dogs and cats. In addition we strive to understand and research the consumer market for you the retailer, to make sure you are kept up to date with the latest findings and knowledge within the raw pet food industry.

Q. How do you switch a cat onto the Natures Menu raw cat food?
A. The key point is to do this gradually. It is also much easier to transition cats from wet food to raw than it is from dry food to raw. Natures Menu have a dedicated Cat transition Guide for Cat owners. Very few cats can be simply moved onto this product with immediate success and do need care and transition.

Q. How do you switch a dog onto the Natures Menu raw foods?
A. Dogs most of the time can simply be switched straight over to the raw food, day to day or meal to meal. If the dog has a sensitive stomach day to day transition is important. Dogs are more sensitive the grain based foods and do not react in the same way to raw meats, unless they have a confirmed allergy to a meat type. Occasionally a dog will not take to the product immediately and will need a slower transition but usually the palatability is enough to appeal to them.

Glenkrag Joins Facebook
It's been quite a while in planning, but we've finally created a facebook page and it’s now live.
When it comes to all things internet I've always been a great believer that if you aren't adding value to what your contributing to the internet then it's not worth doing, the internet needs another person posting selfies in the same manor a sinking ship needs more water, so when it came to planning our facebook presence we felt it was important that we waited until we were in a position to put the right team of people together to admin and post on the page that would mean we would be bringing something noteworthy to our customers and not just another collection of re-posted cute puppy photos.
So what will you find on our facebook page? We aim to bring you insights into the latest products arriving in Glenkrag, as they become available to order, we'll bring you special offers, we'll be posting information about fish, fish stocks and offers on them and any trade news or items we’ve seen in the media which we believe are of interest to the pet trade.
There are things we won’t be doing too, we won't be posting any pricing on our facebook or direct links to anywhere that pricing could be found, we don't believe it’s in the interest of either ourselves or you the retailer to have trade prices branded about the internet, we'd ask that people neither ask for pricing on replies to posts or respond to anyone else's requests for pricing information, it's all available on our website away for retailers to see.

Why not give us a like now and help us keep you up to date with information that can help your business.

Animology - Presented by Ryan
As part of the recent run of presentations at our Tele Sales meetings, it was Ryan’s turn to take centre stage and present his given subject which was the Animology grooming range.

Ryan is the most recent recruit to our sales department having only joined the company in the later end of last year but spoke like a seasoned professional as he went through the range at the sales meeting. He explained that the Animology brand was also fairly new to the Pet Trade having been launched in 2010 with just 8 skus which has grown in recent years to over 40 skus covering shampoos, wipes, scissors and also supplements.

Ryan explained that the 6 most popular in the range are Stink Bomb Deodorising Spray, White Wash Shampoo, Puppy Love Shampoo, Flea & Tick Shampoo & Puppy Fresh Deodorising Spray & Fox Poo Shampoo, these are the lines he’d recommend if you didn’t already list the product and wanted to take it on.

The ethos of the Company is to source and produce locally. 95% Of their products are sourced within an hours drive of their premises in Preston, Lancashire.

All their Shampoos are PH Balanced specifically for Canine Skin and they deliberately use a Low Foam Formula that creates lots of Creamy lather and rather than lots of foam. This greatly reduces the time and water required to rinse the coat. Something that Professionals Groomers are pleased about.

All the Shampoos contain a built on conditioner with pro vitamin B5 AND ALL THE SHAMPOOS TARGET THE ROOT CAUSE OF “Doggy Odour” and not just mask the it with fragrance.

The Animology range comes in a distinctive and stylish black packaging that wouldn’t look out of place in a beauty salon, the packaging sports the emblem of the England Groom Team who compete in competitions across Europe.

They have recently been nominated finalists for 3 Export Business awards a feat they're extremely proud of beating 100s of other candidates to get to these stages.

Ryan did a great job in his first presentation on front of the Tele Sales team and is now well versed on the Animology range, feel free to give him a call and he chat to him about the range.

* Less flatulence

New Website Now Online!
Our new website is now live featuring all the good bits of the last one as well as many improvements and new features.
Here is a run through on what's new or improved.

Order in Singles
We've listened to your feedback and one of the biggest changes to the new website is that you can now order single items from packs, previously if you wanted to buy a split pack of any product you couldn't, but we've added the ability to order packs and/ or singles on the new website.

Improved Search bar
We found it quite annoying when you typed a term into the search bar and it didn't fit, so we've moved the search bar to the top of the screen and made it bigger.

Improved Password Recovery
Something we anticipate will be much used in the coming days is the improved password recovery, if you've forgotten your login details simply go to the login link in the top right then follow the link to reset your password and enter your registered e-mail address and your login details will be reset and sent to you.

Shop by Brand
We've added a new feature to the website so you can shop by brand. Click on "Shop by Brand" on the menu and then navigate through the brands we carry and you can view just the products from that brand.

Improved Favourites
We've added additional features to the Favourite items page making it even easier to store and quickly order your favourite items.

Viewing the Blog
We've moved our blog, previously the blog could only be accessed once you'd logged into the website, now you can read it without logging in.

New Deal Navigation
If there is more than one item on any given deal on our special offers you can now navigate to the product and then click on the "see other products on this deal" link and it will show you the other products on the deal in a format which is easy to order.

We've also kept all of the previous features and tried to keep the layout as close as possible to the previous site to make the transition as smooth as possible.

New Website Coming This Week
It’s been a long time in the pipeline and now our new website is just days away from launch. We’ve taken on board as much customer feedback as we could squeeze into the site and added and enhanced many of our own ideas to improve the website.
We’ll not bore you now with buzzwords and balderdash, but we think you’ll find it was worth the wait.

Later on this week there will be a small amount of downtime for the website while we swap everything across onto the new site, your order history, favourite items, user details and anything currently in your shopping basket will all be transferred into the new site.

If you are automatically logged into the current website you will need to login again to the new one, so we recommend you have a look at your username and if needs be change your password so that you know your username and password combination to login to the new site when it becomes live.

Keep an eye on our social media feeds on facebook and twitter for further information about the downtime and launch information.
